Sugar Mama is finally here!
Sugar Mama is a project that explores how exercise before, during, and after pregnancy influences special sugars in blood and in breast milk called human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). These sugars support healthy gut bacteria in infants, which may reduce their risk of obesity later in life. Using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry (MS) we hope to reveal how maternal lifestyle choices can shape children’s long-term health. .
In ExCaR, we are happy to have two new team members who will work with Sugar Mama: Eva Madland who started as a postdoc in August and Rohmah Nur Fatimah (Imah) who just started her PhD. The project is funded by NTNU Health & Life Sciences. .
